Rimmel Apocalips - Across The Universe

We all know it's a fairly rare occurrence that anything red graces my makeup bag, but recently there has been a red in my stash which I've worn twice since purchasing it last week - I think the Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencils eased me into it to be honest (note to self: buy more Nars lip pencils). The new red in question is Across The Universe in the Rimmel Apocalips range. One of three new shades, this red is slightly darker and more winter appropriate than Big Bang and after giving it a little swatch in store, I deemed it perfect for party season and threw it in my shopping basket.

As with the whole range, these are by no means matte, and can be tricky to work with. Despite this I'm still a fan so I thought I'd put together a couple of tips to help you out when it comes to application.

Get Blotting: Too many coats of this stuff can get a little slippy, but after applying one layer I always blot it out with a tissue to matte things down. Then another layer goes on. This helps to extend the longevity - because who has time to constantly re-apply anyway? Applying a matte lip pencil underneath in a similar colour will work a treat too.

Mop up mistakes fast: Being Miss shakey hands over here, I'm guaranteed to put product where it shouldn't be. This stuff  can be difficult to wipe off, so having a cotton bud and a little makeup remover nearby is essential.

So that's this weeks favourite in the lip department done and dusted. And don't worry if you're not a fan of the reds, next weeks lip product love is a little more on the pinky side. I know, "Am I feeling okay?"...
