It's that wonderful time of the year again where we're all bracing ourselves for the words "new year, new me" thrown around by everyone we know and the usual over priced drinks and club entry become astronomical. Yes, I am aware I just made myself sound like a 50 year old instead of 23 (clearly spent too much time with my dad over the Christmas period, sorry!) but the one thing that I can get on board with at New Years is dressing up for a party. I'm usually stuck for ideas, so this year I planned ahead and wrapped it all up in one video, just in case the annual outfit struggle is real for you too.

What I Got For Christmas 2014

$

After numerous requests for a video on my Christmas gifts, I decided to do a blog post as it would be less than five minutes and mostly consist of books and candles. I find the older you get the more your gifts become little pricey things you can't normally justify, or gifts that you put off buying over and over because they can't be found in the isles of your local Boots. And then there's the chocolates, but those boxes didn't hang around long enough for me to photograph.

Aside from getting a re-stock of my favourite Christmas candle from this year (thanks Mum), she also popped the White Company Wild Mint Candle in my stocking - a welcome addition seeing as it's been on my "to buy" list for an age now.

And then there's the REN Flash Rinse 1 Minute Facial that I've been wanting for a while and two books I've been meaning to get my hands on for a while - Eat Pretty and Not that Kind Of Girl. I'm looking forward to my long train journey on Saturday morning so that I can start reading one of these!

What did you get for Christmas?

Goodbye 2014.

I'm not sure how comfortable I am with the fact that tomorrow my Calendar will read 2015. Part of me is fully prepared to be saying 2014 until at least March. I really enjoyed writing up a yearly round up this time last year, so I thought I'd stick with it again! The year before last I failed at my goal to maker healthier choices and yet again this year I didn't do so well, I also set myself a target this year to not cram in so much and feel totally overwhelmed - yet another well laid plan that went totally awry...

Travel
Despite having the best intentions for 2014, I was barely allowed out of the office. However I did successfully plant my feet on parisian soil for the third year running - there's just something about that city. Last year I wrote about how my goal was to go back to Paris and do the touristy thing in 2014 and I'm really happy that we reached this one goal in particular. New York almost happened this year too, so in 2015 I'd like it to actually happen!

Personal
This past year has been the most stressful between juggling a full time job and running Hello October as a business (you can post full time and work full time but everything that goes along with running a business and working with brands is a completely different story!) and there's no doubt the two took over my life this year. In November I left my job to work full time on Hello October for the foreseeable future. Lots of people commented that it wasn't a good "career move" for me, but it's not really about that. Making sure I am mentally and physically healthy (and happy - that too) is the most important thing and my previous job role just wasn't conducive for a healthy happy lifestyle.

On a much brighter note, this summer Josh and I picked up our little fuzzy pomchi, Nala. She really does mean everything to us and I just can't believe how obsessed I am with her, she's such a babe and I love working at home with her at my side (or on my arm - as is currently the case). We also moved into a new flat which is 95% what dreams are made of (if only I could re-carpet the living room), it's not riddled with damp and so far I have not lost a single item of clothing to poor living conditions. SCOREEE! Despite this I continute to shop like a mad woman. I'm fast running out of room for my clothes - Josh may have to move out ;)

Blog/Youtube
I don't even know where to start here. This is the part that I am definitely so proud and amazed by on a daily basis. Hello October appeared in another two publications this year, but that's not even the best bit. This time last year I was just about to hit 50,000 subscribers on my YouTube channel and just this weekend I hit 185,000. My average increase per month blows my mind (especially when you equate it into the number of people that Wembley Arena can hold) and I'm officially working in numbers that my brain can't really compute (maths is not my forte). On top of that the love from you all is so crazy and I've loved being able to meet a few of you throughout the year.

Things I've Learnt
This year flipped the coin on my perspective on work ethic and how you value yourself. A year ago I didn't have the confidence to voice that I wasn't being valued in the work place. I also didn't understand how much what I was doing was actually worth. There is an odd working culture at the current time where employers feel that they can take advantage of already underpaid industries and run staff up the walls for half of what they're worth. A few months ago I decided that this lifestyle was not for me. This year really taught me that from now on my happiness and health comes first, and all the while I have the freedom to take control of that I will.

2014, you were a small tornado. Thank you to all of you for coming along for the slightly bumpy ride. Have a wonderful New Year and I will see you on the flip side.

Hello 2015.

Oh hey 2015. Whilst I'm sure I envisaged buying my first hover car by this point in my life (though for the record I am still rather impressed by the fact that my finger print unlocks my phone), we really have made it to 2015 *gasps*. This year I'll be turning 24 (mental, I still feel around 11 - except with a much smaller book collection and significantly less eyebrow between my eyebrows) and I have 365 days of vast unknown stretching out in front of me. Sounds like I should fill it with some dreams and ambitions - don't you think?

The start of a new year is never about the "new year, new me" shizz that we see like clockwork come January 1st. I started working on a lot of changes come December as waiting for the start of a new year was just too long for me to wait (patience is not a virtue IMO) but I thought I'd save the chit chat about them for today, because - it's topical and all that jazz.

2015 Bucket List

STOP NAIL BITING. Stress levels were high last year and after taking on a large long standing campaign at work I relapsed and returned to my nail biting ways. As well as being a waste of my extensive nail polish collection, it's also rather unsightly. This is the year this stops and I return to having perfectly filed nails that look rather awesome when painted in bolds and brights.

TRAVEL MORE. Aside from being back and forth to London like a yoyo, I barely travelled last year. This year I'd like to plant my feet on some unfamiliar ground; Germany, Amsterdam, Italy and hopefully US soil at least once. This will be the year that one of my best friends moves to Arizona, so I'll be saving all my pennies to see her face in 3D more this year.

EAT BETTER. This year I either ate super healthy or filled myself with pizza. In 2015 I'm aiming to find a healthy balance - less eating out, more clean home made goodness. As a result you may find a few more recipe posts in the place of restaurant outings.

GROW. I could pretend I'm looking to grow more as a person throughout this next year, but if I'm honest I hate the sound of that (hello cheesy!) and it's something that is constantly happening anyway. What I'm really talking about is the birds nest that resides on top of my head. At the beginning of 2014 I had my hair chopped to my collar bone, and now know that it takes exactly 365 days to grow it back to where it was. This year the growth continues, and by the end of the year I hope to have locks that would make a disney princess jealous. (And yes, that totally means more hair tutorials on my YouTube channel)

MOVE MORE. I started running at the beginning of this month. It's not a daily occurrence and by no means am I considering running marathons. More than anything I'm trying to move more to feel better on the inside. I'm about to start Pilates once I have a more structured working routine (it's been all over the place over the Christmas period) and can't wait to feel the benefits.

SEE MORE. Seeing more of the people I love is so important. I now have my weekends back and have a lot of places to go and people to see.

SAVE MORE. Thinking way into the future, I'd like to have my own home in 2016. Somewhere I can buy and spruce up - I'm really looking forward to destroying a seriously 90's bathroom and building something beautiful in it's place. To do this I'm going to need some dollar, so this year I will attempt to put a little money aside for the future. I also want to save for some some luxury 2015 purchases - Josh and I are looking to get a car this year and I've spent far too long day dreaming about Mulberry bags for my liking.

YOUTUBE & BLOG GOALS. This year I want to upload at least two videos a week and vlog a hell of a lot more. I started vlogging half way through 2014 and realised how much I enjoy it, so I'm hoping to do more months of daily vlogging this year as well as more regular blog updates. I'm also thinking that my layout could use a few tweaks to keep things fresh - better get started with that one sooner rather than later!

Time to wake up 2015, I've got a lot to get done this year...

The Sunday Post: Brain Melt.

I feel like I'm having a little bit of brain freeze when it comes to the Sunday post at the moment. I have such a back log of lifestyle posts to share but when it comes to adding words - nothing. So in true Sunday post fashion I'm about to hit you with an old school run down of five things that went down this week. You ready?

ALL THE CHILLS: It's cold down on the coast - to the point where a cup of tea is required during every dog walk (thank god for a park with a cafe and decent tea). This week a shot my New Years eve outfit - up Wednesday (a tad late - but it only arrived on New Years Eve so photographing immediately was impossible) - and you can tell that my legs have some serious goose bumps! Resident photographer Chloe had some pretty cold hands after spending half an hour clicking away so we treated ourselves to Starbucks after!

MEET UP NERVES: I'm so excited to meet those of you who are coming to my meet up in Brighton next Saturday - but very nervous at the same time. I'll be in the Personal Shopping section in Topshop from 11am - 5pm if you want to drop by and say hello! There will be cupcakes. S'all I'm sayin'.

GETTING ORGANISED: This week I've started to put together a rough idea of when you can all expect to see new content from me. For the blog it will run almost daily - with three out of four posts being a video alert/update and YouTube will run Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday - I already have a rough plan of videos for the next month, but if you have any requests then just holla!

FOOD & FITNESS: I'm having a lot of fun testing out of meals and ways of working out. I'm new to this whole fitness thing, so this month is all about figuring out what I enjoy. I plan on bi-weekly reports updating you all with my findings on each one. I have a vague plan on what I wan to achieve this year and I'm excited to share my plans with you. Any tips on any aspect of healthy eating/living/exercise in general are very welcome!

PUPDATE: I tweeted last night to say I'm filming a six month Nala update this week (to go up on Thursday if I'm super efficient) and I'm so excited. There have been so many good questions already but if you have a burning question then make sure you tweet me! @hello_october_

Tom Ford Lips & Boys

Tom Ford is a brand that sits pretty high up on my lust list. Their eye quads are some of the most beautiful I've ever seen and their lipsticks are so beautifully luxurious that I wince a little once the engraved "TF" starts to wear. Rest assured it does get worn away though, no applying from the back of the bullet going on over here!  When the Lips & Boys collection was released I made sure to swing by the launch and get a little looksie at the endearingly tiny new limited edition lipstick range.

As usual the colours are beautiful, with a rich shade and butter-like texture. Despite not being the most long lasting, they have worked their way into my daily makeup routine pretty darn fast. The difference? Whilst most top ford lipsticks are rather chunky in size, the new additions to the family are super tiny! The majority of the range has a shimmer running though and gives a beautiful plump look to the lips, however if matte lips are more your thing then there's little of that to be found in Lips & Boys.

I have the shades Cary (plum/nude), Xavier (deep plum) and Leonardo (deep red) and all are beautiful shades. However there is always the question of dollar per gram when we're talking about limited edition lipsticks smaller than my child sized fingers. I did the math and (praying I get this right. Totally not a numbers girl) based on the prices on the Selfridges website, we're looking at a 70 pence difference per gram. With regular lipsticks coming in at £12.30 per gram (£37 for three grams - yikes) Lips & Boys being £13 per gram (£26 for two grams - double YIKES). It's not for me to say which one is worth buying (unless you're not a fan of small glossy lipsticks), so go, swatch and let me know your thoughts.

New Year Style Resolutions

Picture this. Your outfit for New Years Eve arrives and before you know it you're standing on the sea front with no tights on, in your garbs of choice, contemplating how much money you'd have if you had a penny for every goose bump on your body. Thankfully it was a kick ass outfit and the photos that Chloe took are the bomb. I branched out a little in terms of my choices for my outfit last week and it spurred on a train of thought on the style choices I want to make going forward.

WEAR WHITE: At the end of 2014 I realised that, despite having a winter wardrobe that looks partially shared with the grim reaper, white works pretty well on me. Last year my goal was to experiment more with colour, this year I'm going for white. It's a shade that works well across seasons and compliments any hair colour and skin tone. If that's not worth investing in I don't know what is.

FOLLOW YOUR HEART: I spent the last year putting off purchasing a few things that I really wanted, but felt they were too novelty or cute for my style (clean and minimalistic is always where it's at), but after giving in they end up being my most worn items (see cat bag, ballet flats and white midi skirts). This year I'm going to go with my gut - invest in softer accessories and create a mix of feminine and structured pieces.

COAT CRAVING: I will always be a coat lover, and where as I've declared to give up on the coat purchases in previous years, this year the coat coveting will continue. In 2014 I wasted too much time buying shirts that were lost under layers and didn't have enough ways to style. But a wardrobe full of classic coats and jackets can be so versatile, and can change the look of the entire outfit underneath.

MORE SHOES: For the past three years I've been that girl who has ten pairs of black boots. All round toe, all with some form of gold embellishment. Snooooze. I've already started branching out in when it comes to shape, finish and style and I can't wait until summer comes around so I can do it all again.

THAT ONE PURCHASE: I'm a high street girl always (sometimes more on the high end of the high street *ahem* WHISTLES) but this year is the year I splurge on ONE thing. Well, one designer handbag that is. I've wanted a Mulberry bag for a very long time now, and over the next 365 days (maybe less if I'm lucky), I'll be scraping my pennies together to buy one. My Dad thinks I've lost my mind, but I've worked really hard over the past four years and my opinion, it's time.

A P-update...

This week I finally filmed Nala's six month update (slightly overdue as I think we are a little way over but... Maths.) In addition to a video I wanted to do a blog update too, complete with a few pictures from one of her walks this week. When we picked Nala up I was so excited for Josh and I to finally have a little something of our own (after eight years together it felt like a very natural step), but I never imagined just how much I would love the little brown furr ball who was no bigger than my hand.

Aside from being the sweetest and most gentle dog I've ever met, she's a total princess (they say you project some of yourself in to your dog - clearly it's true) and gives the best side eye and awkward seal face I've ever seen. I don't think working from home would be the same without her wedged between my chest and the keyboard, head on my left arm (as is currently the case, again. or curled up on my lap whilst I film.

In celebration of us keeping a living creature alive for this long, I thought I'd scribble down some little tips, in case you're thinking of getting a little fuzzy of your own. There are the obvious things like make sure you have enough time to dedicate to them and brace yourself for sleepless nights. But these are a few things that you aren't always told, but can make your life so much easier.

POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT. ALWAYS: I've hear awful things about how people have chosen to train their dogs, but Josh and I decided from the beginning that we would only train Nala via positive reinforcement. We didn't shout at her if she did her business in the wrong place (this can mean they just go out of your sight) and gave her lots of praise for doing the right thing. We did the same with everything we taught her, and she learnt so quickly!

THE FEAR: That stage in development no one tells you about! I was doing some research on development timelines one day and came across a stage that kicks in any time up to six months. Puppies suddenly seem to forget everything you've taught them for a short period. This made total sense when Nala went through a naughty stage (and I mean naughty - at one point she wee'd on the bed right in front of me) and helped us to keep calm and not worry that we were doing things wrong. We continued to praise her for doing the right thing and suddenly one day she started doing everything exactly as we'd taught her again. We didn't say anything out loud as not to jinx it, but were secretly high five-ing each other the entire time.

YOUR TOYS VS. THEIR TOYS: When Nala was very small we bought her toys that she would be able to easily recognise as her own toys. We never bought her toy boots (that's just asking your dog to chew your shoes really) and made sure that most toys were in primary colours (there are so few that dogs can see in comparison to us), in a hopeful attempt that she wouldn't chew our neutral toned items. It could be coincidence but it seems to have worked. She's never chewed a shoe (although it could just mean she's not a chew-er) and very rarely chews something thats not her toys/bones. HOWEVER. She has a soft spot for makeup brushes. RIP MAC 217's.

SHORT & SWEET: Keep instructions short and sweet. I cringe when I see people getting frustrated with their dog whilst giving instructions in full sentences. One word commands work best - the most we use is two for tricks like high five - however this trick is more associated with a hand movement. Dont give up on training either. No matter how small the dog is. It makes your life so much easier just for them to understand the following:

SIT - Great for photos (obviously)... and standing at crossings, clipping their lead, training them further - distracting them from noises/other things that might be going on. It's just a good skill for a dog to learn in general as it makes them appear better behaved.

STAY - This one is not only useful for developing a puppies object permanence (understanding that you will come back and that you haven't run off the second they can't see you), but is useful when you're setting down food, cleaning... and taking photos of them.

PAW - This is an optional one that I thought I'd mention for those who have young family members. Paw is a lovely one as it makes puppies appear far more friendly to young children who might be scared of even the smallest dogs. It's like they're saying hello with a handshake!

HEALTHY HABITS: Without sounding like an all natural, all organic, over protective kid of mum, I always try to feed Nala the best food. The original puppy food she was fed by her breeder had either wheat or rice (something along those lines) as the first ingredient, with meat appearing WAYYYY further down the list. Nala doesn't have the understanding or choice on what goes in to her body, so I made the decision early on that it was our responsibility to feed her the best quality food for our budget. We did our research and found a brand we liked from a local independent pet shot with meat as the first ingredient. We noticed a change in Nala's fur after the change in diet and it now looks so much glossier. Fingers crossed her insides are happy too.

The Sunday Post: Weekend Things

It's hard to believe we're almost half way through January already, I've been surprisingly busy after working to produce three videos a week. Sounds silly really after having done Vlogmas every other day, but I've been trying to create more blog posts and instagram daily - harder than it sounds on days where you're in the world of editing and emerge only for cheese toasties.

I've been trying to vlog more this week after a long break post vlogmas. It's difficult to get back in to the swing of things as I frequently forget to continue vlogging half way through the day. It's also hard when you aren't overly busy and aren't keen on leaving the house! There should be a vlog up on Tuesday so we'll see how that goes!

This week I've been on lots of puppy walks with Nala - I'm not the most outdoor-loving lady on the planet, but there's something about time away from the laptop and phone that helps to clear my mind and de-stress. In the spirit of making these walks productive I've been taking the camera out with me to practise using different settings on my camera. One of my blogging games this year is to improve my photography and feel proud of what I'm producing.

Before I go, a big thank you to everyone who came to my meet up yesterday - it was amazing meeting real 3D people who watch my videos and I'm hoping there will be plenty more in 2015!

Recent Reads & Recipes

After pigging out on pizza back in November I was so determined to improve my diet once my job changed. Due to our busy schedules and working late the fridge was constantly empty and pizza deliveries became a regular thing (our recycling bin is now far less full than it used to be!), it got to the point where I was dreaming of home cooked meals and exercise. Over the Christmas period I was surprisingly good with portion control and balancing my meals, but now we're half way in to January, things are getting pretty gloomy and it's easy to lapse back in to comport eating. To keep myself motivated and the fridge full of food, I've been making sure to immerse myself in healthy recipes, amongst other foodie reads.

After Christmas I took all of my cook books out from the back of our kitchen cupboards (literally gathering dust back there) and displayed them on our kitchen counter for easy access. This way I can flick through whilst I'm cooking and bookmark new recipes - making sure I don't forget to pick them up on my next shop. This reminds me to actually go food shopping, and keeps the fridge full of different ingredients.  Some of my favourites are:

LEON Soups, Salads & Snacks: A great one whether you're a little peckish or looking for lighter lunch ideas. The soup recipes are simple if you're a newbie (or just uncreative - *points at self*) when it comes to the kitchen.

LEON Fast Suppers: Slightly less on the healthy size, but a goodie for super quick dishes that require minimal fuss. There are also some slightly different takes on more traditional meals which helps if you're looking to jazz up your regular routine a little.

Neal's Yard Healing Foods: A great book for those who want to come right back to basics and learn about individual ingredients as well as lots of super healthy recipes. It's definitely something to sink your teeth in to!

Honourable mentions also go out to Cosmopolitans BODY Magazine - great for keeping healthy eating fresh in your mind and the Cook With M&S app - because their recipes just make me drool with excitement.

The Sunday Post: Get Set. Go.

This week I finally managed to get over the fact that it is non longer December. I've fully weened myself off humming Christmas songs and eating all the left over biscuits and I finally feel ready for my mammoth to do list. Patting myself on the back for making it out the other side of the worlds longest Christmas hangover.

FEELING INSPIRED: This weekend has really been a "get shit done" kind of weekend. I worked, I did a massive drugstore/highstreet makeup shop, and I've got the next two weeks of my schedule pretty much locked down. It's busy, and I feel like I might have to go under ground next month as my to do list is so big, but I'm excited. There are a lot of things I'm working away on, and I feel like I'm really starting to push myself when it comes to planning my content.

FITNESS UPDATE: In addition to getting shizz done, I've been continuing to work out at least three times a week. I spend no more than 45 minutes (not including dog walks) and no less than 20 and I am starting to see and feel the difference now. Definitely feel when it comes to doing the 30 day squat challenge. My bum feels like it's make of stone. (YES I DID JUST SAY THAT)

ADVENTURES ON THE HORIZON: Having a good overview of my schedule for the upcoming weeks includes booking in little adventures. Starting small but exciting none the less. Especially when some are in the company of your favourite people. Get ready for some adventures.

The Lazy Girls Introduction To Exercise

In the past month I've transitioned from lazy to lunges in a matter of days, determined to shake off how unfit I was from sitting at a desk from nine hours a day. Josh worked less hours than I did, so I wasn't even the one walking the dog, and I couldn't walk and talk to people without being incredibly out of breath.

Most can't quite believe that I'm on day 19 of the 30 Day Squat Challenge and am still enjoying it, and my boyfriend is really enjoying the novelty of following me round the fitness sections of stores instead of shoes. Considering how I have previously felt about exercise, I'm not surprised really. Lot's of you have asked for tips on ways to make moving a little more feel like less of a chore. So I've jotted down a few of my key focus points for you...

1) START SIMPLE: Being totally unfit meant there was no way I was going to be able to run miles at a time. Some of you seemed shocked that Nala came with me for the first few runs, but we really were doing the smallest amounts of exercise. Half a lap around my local park is nothing, but got my heart rate up and helped me set aside time in the day to exercise. It really helped me realise how easily I can fit in little work outs, and meant that I wasn't pushing myself too hard to the point where I couldn't walk the next day. I knew the latter would certainly be setting myself up for failure.

I also made sure to watch basic online tutorials to make sure I was doing new exercise moves right. Squats, lunges and crunches (there are more, I could go on, but I won't) are all easy to get wrong. To make sure I got the most out of my work outs and to avoid injuries, I watched tutorials and did my first few in front of a mirror. Better safe than sorry!

2) BREATHE: One thing I've found is the importance of your breathing technique whilst exercising. I have fairly weak lungs and can really struggle when I'm running. But when I'm working out things are a bit easier. Breathing in through the nose and out through the mouth (always out on the hardest part of a move) helps me to power through sets of exercise, and stops me from feeling dizzy if things get particularly tough.

3) BASICS: Stock up on the basics that you'll need. If you're planning on working out at home, a yoga mat is preferable over working out on your carpet (sounds fine, but is actually really gross - tried and tested over here). I like to wear a sports bra for what ever work out i'm doing. If nothing else they make me feel ready to work out. I'm a fairly average chest size and the fitness section of H&M kitted me out and works just fine. It's also not crazy expensive if you'er unsure on whether you'll stick with the work outs.

4) WARM UP: I always make sure I spend at least five minutes warming up before I get moving, and always stretch out after. Despite doing the 30 Day Squat Challenge there have been very few occasions where I've had stiff muscles the following day.

5) BE PATIENT: Starting out small really worked for me, but it does mean that the physical effects, both inside and out, can take a little longer to become apparent. After a few weeks I've noticed improvements to my core and leg muscles (can finally touch my toes - score!), and although I don't look any different on the outside, it's the little changes like this that keep me motivated.

Now that I'm over a month in to working from home, I can safely vouch for the fact that it's the little meetings and catch up's that make all the difference to your sanity. At the same time I've come to despise wearing anything that doesn't feel like pyjamas. Every day I walk a fine line between appropriately dressed and could pass for loungewear (or an off duty 90's dancer given the converse and crop top combo).

What I'm really loving are the "capes" (a.k.a poncho/blankets) that are now doing the rounds. Not only do they make you feel like you left the house carrying a throw from your bed, but they also double as the worlds cosiest scarf - something highly sought after given the recent temperature drop down on the sea front!

WHAT I WORE:

CAPE: TOPSHOP*
CROP JUMPER: ZARA
JEANS: TOPSHOP
